Radiant Source™ Models are the most accurate method of modeling the near-field output of real light sources in optical and illumination design software. Radiant Source™ Models are data files containing many images of a light source. They can be used by optical and illumination design engineers to simulate virtually any type of light source, including LEDs, fluorescent lights, arc, tungsten halogen and HID lamps. Radiant Source™ Models are compatible with leading optical and illumination design software programs, such as ASAP, LightTools, TracePro, and ZEMAX.

It is often difficult or impossible for an engineer to obtain all of the data necessary to accurately model a light source with traditional means, such as combining various shapes and applying estimated luminance values to each component. A Radiant Source™ Model avoids this limitation by measuring the full luminance field (both angular and spatial distributions) of a representative light source. This data file can then be examined, or used to generate rays through our ProSource™ software, or utilized with other design software. Radiant Imaging also provides UNIX-based and DLL-based ray generation options for proprietary software interfacing.

It is necessary to purchase Radiant Imaging’s ProSource™ software in order to utilize Radiant Source™ Models, even with other optical design programs. The entire current set of Radiant Source™ Models can be obtained for a single license fee, and single models can be purchased individually as well. In addition, Radiant Source™ Models are available directly from a number of light source manufacturers.
