PM-PTS™ Production Test Sequencer

Turnkey display test system.

The PM-PTS™ is a turnkey, single solution for comprehensive testing and calibration of both front and rear projection systems, CRT, FED and Flat Panel Displays. The system can perform all the visual and quantitative tests necessary to qualify your displays in final QC/QA inspection. These include high accuracy measurements of display brightness, brightness uniformity, contrast ratio (sequential black and white, and checkerboard), color, color uniformity, gamma, distortion, focus, gray scale and convergence. PM-PTS™ also detects and identifies display defects and blemishes. With these capabilities, and its high-speed operation, the PM-PTS™ reduces manufacturing and testing costs, while increasing production throughput for manufacturers of LCD, DLP and LCoS projectors.

The PM-PTS™ works with a PM Series™ Imaging Colorimeter to display specific patterns on the display, perform the measurements, and then analyze the data. For example, to measure checkerboard contrast, a checkerboard pattern will first be displayed, then PM-PTS will measure the pattern, extract the brightness from each square and calculate the contrast ratio. The system software allows the user to specify which tests to perform, to set a wide variety of pass/fail criteria (e.g. number of defects, allowable brightness range, minimum contrast ratio), to store results in a database archive, and to inform the operator of testing results. For front projection applications, PM-PTS™ is even supplied with a calibration light source to facilitate removal of individual screen or projection surface characteristics, which could produce artifacts in the measurement process. The high color accuracy, wide dynamic range (14-bit) and speed of the PM-1400 system make this the first product ever available to offer an automated and comprehensive solution to production line testing and quality assurance.

PM-PTS™ was developed using the ActiveX interface. The use of ActiveX controls in our software enables it to be extended by the user to perform customized, automated tests using software such as LabView, Matlab, VBA, VBScript, Javascript, C and C++.
