Organic light emitting diode (OLED) technology offers many advantages over other flat panel display types, but faces significant challenges in order to become cost competitive, especially in larger display sizes. Successful OLED production necessitates rapid, efficient and thorough testing of a number of display parameters. These include brightness, brightness uniformity, color, and color uniformity, as well as the identification of Mura defects, line defects, pixel defects and sub-pixel defects. The current methodology, based on human visual inspection, offers neither the speed, consistency or accuracy to meet the developing needs of OLED production.
Radiant Imaging has addressed the needs of OLED manufacturers with the PM-OLED™. This is a complete, turnkey solution for test and inspection of full color OLED displays in on-line production, off-line production and even R&D environments. The system delivers rapid, high precision measurements of OLED luminance and chromaticity across an entire substrate, over a single display, or even for an individual pixel. The system can also automatically identify row and column defects, Mura defects, and both pixel and sub-pixel defects. PM-OLED™ is useful for tasks as diverse as high-speed production testing of all the OLED displays on a single glass substrate, to performing detailed R&D studies of sub-pixel defects and shrinkage over time.
PM-OLED™ can control OLED power supply switching for automated measurement of display luminance and color characteristics. PM-OLED™ then automatically provides the operator with either detailed information, or just simple pass/fail indications based on preprogrammed target values for luminance and color. The same level of automated convenience is available for testing based on defect detection. For development purposes, options for measuring luminance, color and pixel dimensions as a function of time can be added.
